New Home in Belmont

Architect: Hecht and Associates Architects Inc.

Nested on a quiet road on Belmont Hill, the construction of this new home presented unique challenges. During early excavation, we encountered large areas of underground ledge outcroppings. Due to the site’s proximity to neighbors, the ledge could not be blasted and required careful drilling and the use of non - toxic chemical solutions that fractured the ledge and allowed for the removal by the S+H’s in-house site work division, The Green Team, with little neighborhood disruption.

This modern home functions as two main structures. Designed around a landscaped courtyard, the two transition seamlessly from inside to outside creating an outdoor living area that feels as if it is part of the house itself. A broad corridor connects them for colder months, making the home modular while keeping it spacious and bright. An in-home elevator connects the levels vertically. The great room and study both exhibit custom-built casing and cabinetry. Elevated windows in the kitchen and great room coat the interior with sunlight. The exterior is constructed with energy efficient roofing that, along with high quality windows, doors, and insulation, helps the homeowners to save on energy costs. Note that this house also benefits from a radiant heating system.
